More than 300 s tuden t s par t ic ipa ted in the Night Market, which requi red $5 for admiss ion for the first t ime this year. "We wan ted to recreate the noisy, bus t l ing , sensory-r ich atmosphere of a real Ta iwanese night marke t , " Rice Taiwanese Association Co-President Allen Liao said. "We didn ' t wan t it to just be a takefood-andleave kind of event , so we really c h a n g e d it u p from previous years to encourage people to stick a r o u n d . " Changes from past RTA Night Markets inc lude increased publicity effor ts and a s t ronger emphas i s on a carnival a tmosphe re . For $5, s t uden t s could get 10 t ickets for food and games. Studen t s could use their t ickets to play at any of the booths : boba pong, karaoke, mini a rcade basketba l l , skeebal l , r ing toss, ba l loon dar t s and a marb le -chops t icks game. Game prizes var ied, but ranged from Asian candy to $5 gift cards f rom bus inesses like Red Mango. According to Liao, a McMurtry College junior, the in ten t ion was for the t ickets to be spent like money at s tal ls tha t would be representa t ive of vendors at a real night market . Liao said that because they budgeted a lot more to make the event bigger and better t han before, the The karaoke booth was one of the many activities available at the Rice Taiwanese Association Night Market.
